Design Wall - Monday

Another week has gone by, times does really fly and sometimes sewing gets a little behind. Well, this week I finished my Summer Breeze table runner. At first I ,meant to use a lot of pinwheels and I started making them, but then...I made a mistake and instead of a Pinwheel I got a Broken Dishes block. Well let's unpick the thing. No, no. the block looked so nice that i decided to change to broken dishes instead of pinwheels

So here it is: My table runner. I love this line of fabric. It came from the Stitch Sanctuary, a great on line store, I love the blues and yellows.

I'm still working on my Granny Squares, I've made four thie past week and I've only more four to go

Last but not least I'm thinking about making myself  a Double Wedding Ring quilt. I've searched the net for information and I still don't know what the best method  or pattern to use. If any of you already made one give me l piece of advice. Should I choose foundation piecing or traditional piecing. What kind of templates to use? I've made a little sample using the foundation piecing method bur I'm a bit lost.
It's a big project and I wouldn't want to make a mess out of it.
Forgive me the poor photos, it's the sun reflection through the windows that caused the spots on the photographs. My fault, of course.

Quilting By Celia said...

The table runner blocks look very nice; have you considered putting something in the centre (like applique)? I have made a Double wedding ring quilt and I used templates and marked the fabric in pencil on the back and hand-pieced some parts or at least tacked before using the machine.I also haven't finished very much lately but keep on ...

Love both projects you posted this week! As for the DWR... I have used the Shar Jorgensen "Quilting From the Heartland templates, and was okay with them, but was much happier with the Marti Michell set I have used most recently. Very easy to use, and really accurate to piece.

I'm a big fan of pinwheels but I have to say I REALLY like those broken dishes blocks, very nice!! Double wedding ring is one of my favorite quilts, I've never made one so I'll be watching to see which way you decide to go:)

regarding the Double Wedding Ring: I've made two using John Flynn's method of strip piecing the arcs. The problem with it is that you need to go back and re-sew each strip pieced seam like a dart to get the curve.

It was later on that I discovered the freezer paper piecing method which enabled me to get the individual fabric wedges that I so like PLUS the precision of paper piecing PLUS *NOT* having to rip the paper off afterwards (such a PITA) PLUS you can re-use the freezer paper template many, many times to make multiple arcs (until the freezer paper no longer sticks to the fabric).

It's the absolute BEST of all worlds.
